Surface sealing
Surface sealing and the importance of water-permeable floor coverings for the environment
The increasing sealing of surfaces is a serious environmental problem that has a significant impact on both the ecosystem and the climate. According to the German Environment Agency, around 45 per cent of settlement and traffic areas in Germany are sealed. This means that they are built on, concreted over, asphalted, paved or paved in some other way. These measures prevent rainwater from seeping into the ground and replenishing groundwater reserves. In addition, gas exchange between the soil and the atmosphere is inhibited.
On the one hand, sealing results in increased surface run-off of rainwater, which increases the risk of flooding in urban areas. On the other hand, the groundwater is insufficiently replenished. This can lead to water shortages and a deterioration in living conditions for animals and plants during dry periods.

In addition to the effects on the water balance, surface sealing also contributes to the warming of the urban climate. Sealed surfaces store heat and cause the so-called ‘heat island effect’, which causes temperatures in cities to rise noticeably, especially in the summer months.
In view of these challenges, water-permeable floor coverings offer a sustainable alternative to conventional surface sealing. This is where REGUPOL comes in with its product range. Some of our floor coverings are specially designed to allow water to seep (based on DIN 18035 - 6) away, making a valuable contribution to the environment.
By using REGUPOL coverings, rainwater can seep into the ground naturally, which helps to recharge the groundwater and at the same time reduces the risk of flooding. In addition, permeable pavements help to improve the urban climate by reducing heat build-up and providing a cooler environment.
REGUPOL attaches great importance to sustainability and environmental protection. Our water-permeable surfaces are not only functional, but also durable and sustainably produced. By using recycled materials, we are actively committed to reducing waste and protecting natural resources.
With our water-permeable solutions, we offer an ecological alternative that harmonises both urban space and nature. Together, we can make a valuable contribution to protecting the environment by using intelligent, sustainable construction methods.
