University of Notre Dame Football Equipment Room
In 2014, the $400 million Campus Crossroads addition and stadium renovation represented the largest single project Notre Dame had undertaken in 175 years. This included new flooring in the 4,000 sq. ft. equipment room, home to its players’ infamous 24-carat gold helmets, cleats, and safety equipment.
This area was naturally prone to heavy foot traffic by players, coaches, and staff. Ideally, the replacement flooring needed to be durable to extend replacement cycles and provide excellent life cycle value. Beyond practical considerations like durability, comfort, and maintenance, designers and school officials were also looking for a floor that could evoke the spirit of the fighting Irish.
The solution: REGUPOL aktiv. This tried-and-true floor excels in areas where there is a constant flow of foot or equipment traffic. Made from 100% post-consumer tire and pre-consumer EPDM rubber,REGUPOL aktivis an excellent surface for areas that require resilience, sound absorption, spike resistance, and traction. In addition, it may be customized based on room dimensions, color, and marketing preferences. Overall, Aktiv delivers an exceptional level of performance and lasting good looks.
Upon entering the equipment room, players, coaches, and visitors encounter the familiar “Fighting Irish” mascot, a leprechaun with fists up, ready to fight. The team’s custom mascot and signature Celtic font spelling out, “Notre Dame Football” was created through our water-jet cutting technology. The result is a floor that will leave a lasting impression for years to come.
